Grade 3

Third Grade Distance Learning

Students entering Third Grade in the fall can choose from a variety of classes that run from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.  Students can "attend" one class or any combination of classes. Class times are staggered and have breaks between them so that students who would like to take more than one class can have a break in between classes. None of the class times overlap, so students may attend any or all of the classes.

All classes are 45 minutes in length and are conducted on Zoom. Zoom sessions are password protected and links are changed regularly to help create a safe online learning environment. Parents can "drop off" their children in class because all of the activities will be done with the teacher during the Zoom session!

For all classes, students will need access to the Internet. A printer will enhance the class experience but is not necessary. A list of supplies that are commonly found around the house will be provided about a week before the class begins. Some classes recommend purchasing a novel, so please read each description carefully for that suggestion.

Session 1 Class Options

This summer, Ms.Van Hook and the Third Graders are putting on their capes and learning all about what makes a reading superhero! *This class will require various art materials, most of which can be found around the house, but some may need to be purchased. The list will be provided closer to the start of the class.

10:00 - 10:45 a.m. - Create your own Graphic Novel with Ms. Van Hook
Calling all artists and writers! We're living through something that kids (and adults) have never experienced: a pandemic.  Most good writers draw experiences from their own lives to inspire their work. 11:15 - 12:00 p.m. -  Zoo Math and Games
Third Graders will be running the Zoo with Mrs. Quinto this summer! It takes a lot of math to run a business and to take care of the tiniest of creatures and the most dangerous of creatures! Join Mrs. Quinto to sharpen your math skills from Second Grade and preview math skills from Third Grade all while making sure the zoom animals are fed, safe, and guests at the zoo are treated to a wonderful experience!
