Elementary School: Grades 1-4

The First through Fourth Grade classes are self-contained and each is team-taught by two fully credentialed teachers.  Team teachers coordinate the program at their specific level, guiding the cognitive growth of the students in a supportive and caring environment.  Breakout rooms allow for small group instruction and individual attention, especially in the core subject areas of reading, math and language arts.

A strong emphasis is placed on the development and refinement of the ability to read, exposing students to both high quality literature as well as phonics and word analysis skills.

A real value is placed on the knowledge and pleasure that reading provides. Weekly library classes teach familiarity with library resources and provide opportunities for both traditional and digital research.

Creative and expository writing activities emphasize each child’s authorship, the mastery of the protocols of composition and also promote the ability to communicate ideas effectively.

The mathematics curriculum develops a strong understanding of mathematical concepts as well as the mastery of facts, and includes problem-solving, hands-on and cooperative learning activities.

A science specialist plans experiments and activities with the students in the elementary science lab, in their classrooms, or in the natural environment of the school’s 30-acre campus.

The social studies program helps children understand the many communities of which they are a part, and the responsibilities that are concomitant with those relationships. Social studies integrate activities from multiple disciplines around meaningful topics and points of focus.

Art, music, technology, religion and physical education are very important elements of the First through Fourth Grade program. They are taught by teachers who have specialized, professional backgrounds in those areas, and are regularly scheduled each week.

First through Fourth Graders attend chapel twice a week, participate in school wide community service activities and spearhead their own class projects to serve the broader community and those in need.
