St. Matthew’s seeks to enroll children who will benefit from the philosophy, values, and purposes of its program. The School admits students of any race, color, religion, or national and ethnic origin and does not discriminate in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, financial aid programs, and athletic or other school administrated programs.

Preschool applicants will be evaluated according to their developmental level, using a variety of means to assess each students readiness for St. Matthew’s program. These include the birthday cut-off dates (June 1st for boys and September 1st for girls), personal interviews with the family, observations of the child in a classroom setting, and information from the child’s current school.

Kindergarten through 8th Grade decisions on admission are based upon the following criteria: the birthday cutoff dates for Kindergarten (June 1st for boys and September 1st for girls), personal interviews with the family and the child, information from the child’s previous school, and the applicant’s performance during screening and evaluation sessions.

Further considerations in admission: True to its founding charter, the School’s admission policies flow from the broad context of the values, traditions and tenets of the Episcopal Church, and thus, in addition to academic, developmental, and personal qualifications, the Admission Committee may consider a number of other factors. These include whether the applicant’s parents are active and pledging members of the Parish of St. Matthew, balancing an equal number of boys and girls at each grade level, enrolling siblings of families who have been actively involved in the School, and increasing the School’s diversity of racial, cultural, religious, and economic groups. None of these factors should be considered as a guarantee of automatic acceptance into the school.
