Message from the Head of School

Welcome to St. Matthew's

We at St. Matthew's believe we have created a most special school. Blessed with inquisitive and thoughtful students, outstanding and caring teachers, and helpfully involved parents, the school offers a unique blend of seemingly contradictory attributes that make it special in so many ways.

We are a small PS-8th Grade school - having a student body of about 325 - yet on a spacious campus of some 30 acres. Traditional in its values and high expectations, we also possess a wonderfully creative faculty, teaching a program incorporating the tried and true, as well as cutting edge methodologies. An integral part of the Parish of St. Matthew's and the larger Episcopal community, the school stresses moral and spiritual growth while welcoming and celebrating families of all faiths. Challenging academics always include a network of support and caring. Fine and performing arts, physical education, and technology are an integral part of each student's life at St. Matthew's. As the ancient Greeks recognized thousands of years ago, to educate the mind without also fostering character was to fall short. Thus, at St. Matthew's we strive to develop not only critical thinkers, but also persons of integrity; we hope for not only successful and happy children, but also ones full of kindness and concern for the well being of others.
